Practical information for visit organisers
During a SkillZONE session visitors experience home, fire, 999 and road safety scenarios then a further 5 more of your choice. Details of the optional scenarios can be found on the website – you will be sent a form to choose your scenarios a few weeks before the visit. A visit usually takes 2 hours, but we can reduce the number of scenarios and/or increase the time spent in the scenarios if you feel that a shorter visit is more appropriate for your group. The full entry price will still be charged for shorter visits.
The visit begins with a short briefing and quiz. Participants are then divided into small groups and will be taken around your chosen scenarios by our trained SkillZONE guides.
At the end of the visit, there is a short debrief including a repeat of the quiz.
A responsible adult who knows your group must remain on site at all times, however as all our staff and volunteers have had safeguarding training and a satisfactory enhanced DBS check we do not normally require an adult to accompany our guides. Please provide any member of your group who requires 1:1 support with their usual level of support. Should you wish to shadow the session we would please ask that each group is shadowed by a maximum of 1 accompanying adult (excluding any 1:1 support as above). We prefer parents NOT to accompany their children in the SkillZONE village. We find that the children are more likely to be open and honest in their discussions with our guides when parents are not there. The exception would be for children who require 1:1 support for behavioural or other SEN reasons, and in these cases we welcome whatever level of support is required by the child.
Morning sessions start at 10am and finish at 12pm. Afternoon sessions start at 1pm and finish at 3pm. We will try to accommodate requests for slight changes within these slots – PLEASE CONTACT US – but the full cost of the visit will still be charged. During school term times we are unable to offer sessions starting at 11am as this means we are unable to offer an afternoon session afterwards. We do have more flexibility outside of term times, please contact us to discuss.
If you visit our online bookings page you will be able to view our availability and book a session direct from there. The cost is £5.50 per participant, with no charge for support staff/helpers. We can either invoice your organisation or you can pay by cash or cheque on arrival, unfortunately we are unable to take card payments.
